Visit the fairytale forest on the Elster, to which our motorhome pitch owes its name. The water of the Kamnitzbach stream brings countless little fairytale figures to life. A walk in the shade of the trees is a welcome way for young and old to cool off, especially in summer.
The Wünschendorf mill owner Herbert Schulze had the idea for the fairytale forest back in 1927. He commissioned the creation of the first two water features, a goldsmith’s workshop and the fairytale house that tells the story of Little Red Riding Hood. The stream uses belts, water and cogwheels to move figures and mills. The buildings along the stream were inspired by old trades that were once based in Wünschendorf. Children are particularly fascinated by the figures from the world of fairy tales and legends.
In 2019, the facility was almost completely destroyed by a flood. It was reconstructed in 2020 with the help of donations and reopened in the same year. The stream flows into the Weiße Elster, where there is a boat landing stage. You can reach the fairytale forest on foot or by rowing boat (rental station is at the Gasthaus Zum Klosterhof). At the entrance to the fairytale forest is the Märchenwaldbaude, which offers snacks and drinks.
