A special attraction is the Mildenfurt Monastery, which can be reached on foot in 20 minutes. Sculptures by the artist Volkmar Kühn await you there.
Mildenfurth Castle in Wünschendorf is a curiosity among Thuringia’s architectural monuments. It was originally founded in 1193 by Heinrich II Vogt von Weida as a Premonstratensian monastery. However, in the 16th century, the monastery’s three-aisled basilica was transformed into a Renaissance castle. In the immediate vicinity is the art storehouse with works by the famous sculptor Volkmar Kühn. If you are coming from the direction of Wünschendorf, you can also cross a historic wooden bridge on your way to the castle.
